Health classes explained

Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard: what each level signifies and what determines your placement.

Carriers price term via rate classes. Names differ by company but the steps are: Preferred Plus (also Super Preferred or Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, then table ratings for higher risk. Tobacco users get parallel classes at more cost.

What underwriters look at

Height and weight, blood pressure and cholesterol, family heart or cancer history before 60, driving, prescriptions, occupation and hobbies, and tobacco. Best rating needs good scores across most; Preferred allows some; Standard Plus and Standard allow controlled issues like managed high BP.

How to use the quote tool

The health question asks for honest self-assessment: Excellent means Preferred Plus, Very good means Preferred, Good means Standard Plus, Average means Standard. Quotes use your pick; underwriting confirms the real class. Unsure? Quote both and compare, let underwriting decide. An optimistic choice does not cut your final cost—just the quote accuracy.

Susman Insurance Agency finds carriers with guidelines better suited to your specific circumstance—often more important than the headline rate.
